  18. Well, you *can* put a /NextCD directory on your disk, *provided you change
  19. /etc/rc.boot as well*.  This obviously won't work if you boot off the CD, but
  20. if you boot off the CD this doesn't apply anyway.

  22. It's only a bad idea to change the /etc/rc* files other than rc.local if you
  23. don't know what it is you're doing and the full ramifications thereof.

  25. Since the existance of /NextCD is checked only once near the beginning of
  26. /etc/rc.boot, changing that directory on your hard drive won't hurt (heck,
  27. even taking out the check on your hard drive won't hurt as it's definitely
  28. not going to be booting from CD ROM).

  30. Of course, one should realize they're fiddling with a standard.  There should
  31. be a better way to determine if you're booting from a CD ROM or not than
  32. looking for a directory; something like a disk -s /dev/rsd0a | grep removable
  33. check or something.
