- I've read all the posts on the NeXT RISC workstation and the rumor of the
- new processor that NeXT wants to use. I have come to this conclusion:
- The chip should:
- 1. Be available from multiple vendors.
- 2. Be fast enough to replace the DSP and compression chips.
- 3. Be expandable, ie able to plug another processor in and have them
- work in parallel.
- 4. I don't know what SuperScalar means, but it seems like a good
- feature to have in a processor.
- 5. And finally, not be so expensive that it drives the prices of NeXTs
- even higher.
- Being a student at Penn State, I don't have much money. However, I KNOW
- that the NeXT is the best computer in the world, and I must get one someday.
- However, I have watched the prices of NeXTs go up and up with no reason. Not
- only that but they are dropping the best machines for entry-level users like
- me: The non-Turbo, 8MB systems. Oh sure, they'll run slow, but let me
- worry about that. Don't take away my freedom of choice and drive me away
- by raising prices.
-
- There, that's my two cents worth.
- Nate :)
