  12. We have a strange problem that happens with every single application that uses  
  13. the DSP chip.  When it attempts to do something with sound, we get the error  
  14. "Can't open DSP.  Perhaps another application has it."  Yet the machine has  
  15. been rebooted numerous times, so it is not very likely that some other  
  16. application actually has the DSP open.

  18. My guess is that some application crashed while using the DSP and left some  
  19. sort of lock behind.  I would guess it is on disk somewhere, since it survives  
  20. reboots.  Of course, I could be totally wrong.  Does anyone have a clue as to  
  21. what the problem is and how to solve it?

  23. Incidently, we're still running NextStep 2.1 if it matters.  I have the 3.0  
  24. CD-ROM, and I've thought of installing it in the hopes that it would fix the  
  25. problem, but I'd like to know for sure before I do that.  Besides, I'd like to  
  26. know what the hell this is in case it ever comes up again.
