- DEC has not yet been successful in licensing the current Alpha chip
- design. The chip has other problems, one being sheer physical
- mass. It's a very tough chip to make, and I don't think the design
- could be cost effective for a while.
-
- Personally, I'd like to see NeXT (well, anyone actually) make a
- hardware box with several slots for several different processor
- types. You like PA-RISC? Plug it in. Want those same programs to
- run faster? Plug in a few more, and power back on. You decide that
- you like SPARC better? Plug it in. You need that 486 program to
- run fast instead of under emulation? Go buy one and plug it in.
-
- I'd like to see display architectures the same way. 2-bit gray?
- One low density SIMM. 8-bit gray or 12 bit color? One regular
- SIMM. 24 bit color? Another SIMM. Two to four headed? Add a card
- with three more empty banks and start populating them...
