- I don't know all the ins and outs of NeXT's and bbss, the only one that I know
- about that has been around for a while is MindVox which runs on a NeXT Turbo &
- a Sun Sparcstation2, or did. They are 212-988-5030 or telnet phantom.com to
- check it out.
-
- But *WARNINGS*
-
- One its a commerical service, its not free.
-
- Two its not a generic kind of "public access unix" they've gone from going up to
- over 1,000 members and being in Mondo and this weeks FORBES cover story, there
- are wall to wall hackers, ex-hackers, security people, writers from the
- cyberpunk movement, etc, hanging out there and there is a *LOT* of attitude
- present.
-
- Three, with the attitude thing, they are also really obnoxious about some
- things, when MindVox first went up they found a lot of security holes in the
- NeXT platforms, some of them have been patched in NS3.0, some haven't, but there
- are a lot of people there who used to be in the underground and run/ran security
- mailing lists (Splinter, Zardoz, Inner Core), etc, Cypherpunk guys, etc, etc,
- it's not a great place to show up if you want to feel secure about your network,
- because there are a lot of people there who will be happy to show you it's swiss
- cheese.
-
- For what its worth, they are either taking the NeXT offline next year, or just
- moving it back on the network and the main server is becoming a Sun
- Sparcstation10 ;-)
