  13. I don't know all the ins and outs of NeXT's and bbss, the only one that I know
  14. about that has been around for a while is MindVox which runs on a NeXT Turbo &
  15. a Sun Sparcstation2, or did. They are 212-988-5030 or telnet phantom.com to
  16. check it out.

  18. But *WARNINGS*

  20. One its a commerical service, its not free.
  21.  
  22. Two its not a generic kind of "public access unix" they've gone from going up to
  23. over 1,000 members and being in Mondo and this weeks FORBES cover story, there
  24. are wall to wall hackers, ex-hackers, security people, writers from the
  25. cyberpunk movement, etc, hanging out there and there is a *LOT* of attitude
  26. present.

  28. Three, with the attitude thing, they are also really obnoxious about some
  29. things, when MindVox first went up they found a lot of security holes in the
  30. NeXT platforms, some of them have been patched in NS3.0, some haven't, but there
  31. are a lot of people there who used to be in the underground and run/ran security
  32. mailing lists (Splinter, Zardoz, Inner Core), etc, Cypherpunk guys, etc,etc,
  33. it's not a great place to show up if you want to feel secure about your network,
  34. because there are a lot of people there who will be happy to show you it's swiss
  35. cheese.

  37. For what its worth, they are either taking the NeXT offline next year, or just
  38. moving it back on the network and the main server is becoming a Sun
  39. Sparcstation10 ;-)
