- Interesting. Given a choice between a Monochrome 040 cube
- and a monochrome station, I'd happily take the cube. For all
- of those who'd like to trade their cubes for monochrome stations,
- I'll supply a station for every cube with glee.
-
- My cube has a full-height optical and a full-height hard drive in
- it, the equivalent of four half-height 5 1/4 devices. It has a
- hefty power supply capable of powering those devices, and a hefty
- fan capable of cooling them. The value of a NeXTdimension board
- gets constantly debated elsewhere, but I can add one. A station
- owner cannot.
-
- The cube is the only system now being produced that could
- really be said to have a "future." There really is no real upgrade
- policy for stations to speak of, whereas NeXT is unlikely not to
- keep supporting the many cube owners out there who paid top dollar
- for their machines. I expect to be able to buy an NRW board for my
- cube when it does appear; it may at worst be an adaptation of a board
- meant for another machine, but that's worst case, and it'll be there.
- The most likely machine for any future upgrades is a cube, not a slab.
-
- All other factors being the same (except memory), ports, processor, etc.,
- I'd far rather have a cube (and do) than a station.
-
- Incidentally, I'd still like to sell either my 030 or my 040 motherboard;
- I'm in a cash crunch, and either one works for me as a development platform.
- 030 - $500 OBO, 040 - $1000.
-
- Thanks!
