- This is a trivial issue, but it's really bugging me:
-
- System 7 with Tuneup 1.1.1.
-
- I have a IIcx with a Radius monochrome Pivot monitor, which supports 4
- levels of gray-scale. Several months ago I followed the instructions
- in the Jan. 92 issue of MacUser "Beating the System" to successfully
- create and use a 64x64 desktop pattern, with grays, by editing the
- ppat 16 resource in the System file. Worked fine for months...
-
- This week I did something in the process of extracting that ppat
- resource for use on another machine which has caused my fancy desktop
- pattern to be ignored (and I've flailed around so much trying to get
- it back that I don't really know just when the problem started) and
- the set of B&W patterns to be used instead. Here are the symptoms:
-
- * The monitor works fine in 4 grays mode; the highlight color is gray,
- etc.
-
- * The General Controls Panel refuses to show me the patterns in the
- ppt# resource (which seem to be the "color" patterns) but show me
- the B&W patterns instead.
-
- * MacEnvy says my monitor is a 2-bit monochrome.
-
- I've tried the following increasingly desparate measures, to no avail:
-
- * Faithfully following the original instructions again.
- * Restoring the System file and the General Controls files from a
- backup taken when the large gray desktop pattern was working.
- * Zapping the PRAM.
-
- So what's the answer? What do I frob to convince whoever displays the
- desktop pattern to use the color/gray patterns, and specifically to
- use the contents of ppat 16?
