- I also favor NEP over CPU. The time remaining estimate seems more
- accurate. I like the "by application" settings, so the processor
- doesn't rest when I'm using Hypercard but does when I switch to Word.
- It stupidly tries to put the Docked Duo to sleep which results in a a
- dialog box from the system saying you can't sleep the machine. This
- is a pain because I would like it to sleep when powered and not docked
- but I have to leave the A/C setting to sleep never to prevent the
- stupid dialog tying up my machine.
-
- The Instant Access feature is OK. My problem is that when I get ready
- to print something, I turn on the printer. It then takes some time (5
- minutes?) for NEP to figure out that I am on a network unless I tell
- it to scan by typing the hot key. This is fine for me but my wife
- doesn't care to remember junk like that. The result will be "please
- turn on appletalk" warnings from PrintMonitor I'm sure. I would be
- happy with appletalk on when powered, off when on battery.
-
- Other stupidity. The fact that someone actually wrote an airport
- module and documented it without mentioning the fact that you can just
- hold down the shift key to start up the mac quickly is stupifying.
- Its not like their module is faster than holding down the shift key,
- or easier to remember, its completely redundant and useless.
-
- Also, Instant Access makes all these claims about how having Appletalk
- turned off saves 200K of memory and since they turn it off when you
- are not connected to the network you will save that memory is suspect
- to me. I've looked in About Macintosh when IA has turned AT on and
- again when it turned it off and I didn't see any significant memory
- changes.
