- Howdy:
-
- My wife and I are considering the purchase of a MAC; she for work
- (pagemaker, etc.) I for talking to my workstation at work. I also
- want to do some programming. I looked in news.answers and didn't see
- a FAQ for this newsgroup so, not knowing if there is one or not I pose
- the following questions:
-
- 1) I assume GNU emacs is not available since that's the way
- Richard Stallman wants it. Fine. However, my fingers have the
- ctl and meta sequences burned into them. Are there text
- editors out there with similar key mappings (ie: C-N, C-P,
- etc.)?
-
- 2) Seems I saw somewhere there is a MAC version of AWK laying
- around. True? What other UNIX like software is out there.
- Anything resembling a shell (ksh, sh, csh, etc.)? (I can't
- afford AUX right now)? lex? yacc?
-
- 3) What's the best route to go programming wise? Think-C seems
- to get a lot of ad space. What about the macintosh programmers
- workbench? What does it take to write hypercard scripts -- do
- I have to buy hypercard?
-
- If all of this is in a FAQ, just politely say so and I'll wait till
- the next go round when it appears. Ideally I would get AUX or mach10
- and have my little UNIX environment while still letting my wife do her
- mac things, but for now I have to 'roll my own', so to speak. Any
- help is appreciated.
