- Someone recently requested some information on how to get
- the powerbooks to work with MIDI (getting around the serial
- port problem).
-
- A friend and I installed Vision 1.1 on his powerbook 160. I
- am using an Opcode Studio Plus 2 MIDI interface and a Roland
- U20 keyboard. I have a 4way switch box which is between the
- MIDI interface and the serial port of the PB. BTW - you must
- have a special cable to go between a switch box and your serial
- port. I found that out the hard way. The switch box has nothing
- to do with the fix; I am just describing my setup.
-
- We played heavy sequences and I did not notice any timing errors
- of any type. We also recorded several tracks of stuff on many
- different MIDI channels without any problems. However, we did
- not use any continuous controllers to tax the system. It is
- possible with alot of tracks of dense data playing while recording
- a new track, one may encounter timing problems.
-
- I have just ordered Vision 1.4 and was told over the phone by
- Opcode that a fix would be availible in about a month. This
- suggest to me that these serial port problems have more of an
- effect when OMS is used with later versions of Vision.
-
- So, to summerize, Vision 1.1 works fine on a PB160 with my rig.
- Vision 1.32a and after I am told will have problems.
- Opcode will release something in about a month to fix this problem.
-
- I hope this answers some questions.
