-
- But comparing Apple sales to IBM-PC and compatible combined sales, you
- see a really different picture.
-
- A lot of this is based on IBM having competition and Apple having none.
-
- Sure, they compete with the IBM-PCs for the desktop, but only in a limited
- way. A person makes a decision at this level on the GUI for the most
- part. If they chose an object oriented one, that used to mean only a
- Macintosh. I know a lot of people who wanted a Mac, but couldn't afford
- one. They bought a PC instead.
-
- Apple will begin to compete more directly with the IBM-PC and compatible
- now that OS/2 has (Work Place Shell), and Windows NT is moving towards
- (Cairo, I believe), an object oriented user environment.
-
- With these OSes, I think Apple will start to get some pressure. I think
- more people will opt for the less expensive PC route if they can get an
- environment similar to the one on the Mac there.
-
- I think you would agree that the MAC-OS environment is the strongest selling
- point of the Macintosh.
-
- I like this type of environment, and I got something I like with an IBM-PC
- and OS/2 2.0. It is not as mature as MAC-OS, but it is very good in
- comparison to the MAC-OS in it's first year. And it can run a lot of DOS
- apps.
