- After >20 years of using computers (UNIX, VMS, DOS, NeXT, OS/360, you name it),
- I've recently bought a couple of Macs. I'd like to know 3 things:
-
- (1) What are the indispensible utilities you all use that I don't know about
- and can't live without?
-
- (2) What are the indispensible games that I and my kids (5 and 2) don't know
- about and can't live without? If possible, maybe you can suggest things not
- too warlike? They spend enough time building Bonga-gonga shooters as is.
-
- (3) Is there anything I can read to give me some idea of what's really going on
- inside these boxes without sitting down to 2 years worth of Inside Macintosh?
- What's out there that's intermediate between "Drag the little picture of the
- font into the System Folder," and 800 volumes of Inside Mac?
-
- I don't have lots of money, but I don't mind spending something. I do know
- about sumex-aim, wuarchive, and mac.archive.umich, and can get stuff from them.
- But I could use some guidance about which of the things in their 2MB of
- directory listings are worthwhile.
-
- Sorry for the vague query; feel free to reply by e-mail unless you think the
- discussion of what software you love is helpful to the world at large, or
- unless you think 40 flame wars about the best games/DAs/... is a good way to
- start the Christmas season.
