  10. After >20 years of using computers (UNIX, VMS, DOS, NeXT, OS/360, you name it),  
  11. I've recently bought a couple of Macs.  I'd like to know 3 things:

  13. (1) What are the indispensible utilities you all use that I don't know about  
  14. and can't live without?
  15.  
  16. (2) What are the indispensible games that I and my kids (5 and 2) don't know  
  17. about and can't live without?  If possible, maybe you can suggest things not  
  18. too warlike?  They spend enough time building Bonga-gonga shooters as is.
  19.  
  20. (3) Is there anything I can read to give me some idea of what's really going on  
  21. inside these boxes without sitting down to 2 years worth of Inside Macintosh?   
  22. What's out there that's intermediate between "Drag the little picture of the  
  23. font into the System Folder," and 800 volumes of Inside Mac?
  24.  
  25. I don't have lots of money, but I don't mind spending something.  I do know  
  26. about sumex-aim, wuarchive, and mac.archive.umich, and can get stuff from them.   
  27. But I could use some guidance about which of the things in their 2MB of  
  28. directory listings are worthwhile.

  30. Sorry for the vague query; feel free to reply by e-mail unless you think the  
  31. discussion of what software you love is helpful to the world at large, or  
  32. unless you think 40 flame wars about the best games/DAs/... is a good way to  
  33. start the Christmas season.
