- It seems that my newsreader barfed at your return address--it didn't
- have a domain or nodename so you may want to check that. So I
- had to reply by posting...
-
- sumex-aim.stanford.edu is the standar repository in the info-mac
- directory. There is also mac.archive.umich.edu. Help with
- downloading is available in the info-mac/help directory. He will
- need a comm program or some method of downloading a file to his mac
- in "MacBinary" format. Most mac comm programs including NCSA Telnet
- (for ftp if that's a option) have a setting to download as a
- Macbinary file.
-
- The first one you want to get is info-mac/util/binhex-40.bin. Be
- sure to do *all* the transfers in binary mode and the download to the
- mac in MacBinary mode. You should then have a program that will
- decode all of those .hqx files. The next program you should
- get is /util/stuffit-expander-30.hqx, which you can download in ASCII
- format, decode with Binhex4, and double-click to install. This will
- yield a program that will do de-binhexing, and decompression of all
- the popular Mac compression formats (Stuffit 1.5.1, Stuffit Deluxe, and
- Compact Pro are the major formats, denoted by .sit and .cpt respectively).
-
- Hope this helps. There are many more mac ftp sites, but the
- aforementioned 2 will certainly get you started.
