- : I don't know why they would be sending you binhexed files, but that is
- : what it sounds like. Binhex is a cousin of uuen(de)code. Performs exactly
- : the same function. There is a unix version available for anonymous
- : ftp from sumex-aim.stanford.edu called mcvert in the /info-mac/unix
- : directory.
- :
- : Some slim chance that the files are in Apple Single or Apple Double formats,
- : but I can't help you there, I don't know anything about them.
- :
- I think what you are getting are really uuencoded file enclosures. Many of
- the Mac email gateways that provide TCP/IP transport gateway-to-gateway using
- smtp mail will uuencode attached files for transmission. The senders expect
- that the mail is going to a gateway and then to another Mac. The gateways
- are just another host running an smtp mailer as far as the internet is
- concerned.
-
- The only fix I know is to ftp the uudecoded file to a Mac. (Unless you buy
- a Mac and run A/UX like I do).
