- Tony is right...to a point. While everything listed would be really
- nice, there is a limit in terms of what is realistic. While I (as an
- education kinda guy) think educational prices are great, they have to
- make *some* money on all sales...the possibility of future customers
- when these students graduate isn't quite enough.
-
- 1.) I don't know if Apple has that much control over hypercard right now,
- that may be Claris' baby.
-
- 2.) Agreed, but I don't want to start that 3 month flame-fest again.
-
- 3.) 19 inches!? Learn to conserve screen space, it's good for your soul.
- I agree, however that it would be nice, but most of the new "personal
- workstations" are using 16" monitors with extra $$$ upgrade to a 19".
-
- 4.) "Why when I was a youngster we paid $2500 for a Mac SE with 1M of RAM
- .....and we liked it!". Seriously, what does a 68040 ( just the chip )
- cost? Maybe we could just buy 2 Classic IIs, give one to the department
- administrative assistant...she'll help you get more funding for more
- Macintoshes!
-
- 5.) low-cost A/UX. Nice idea, but seriously. I wonder what Apple has
- to pay AT&T for each A/UX license. If UNIX is your goal, and money
- is the problem...there are better ways to get UNIX than by turning
- a nice spiffy Macintosh into a UNIX machine.
-
- 6.) Another nice idea. I don't know what is involved in that Ethernet
- connector box. Is it possible to even make one for the cost you list?
- Why not just build COAX, twisted pair, and thick connectors right
- into the machine? ( More cost but no hassle with that little box. )
-
- No slams were intended with this, but I think that the spirit of Bill's
- question was focused on hardware. Without good marketing, it is difficult
- to sell any hardware, no matter how nice. The two are linked together,
- but Apple must address the real world(tm) and the financial deals associated
- with it. In education, we tend to become rather short-cited about our
- god given right to buy computers for cheap.
-
- Now how about those $2000 Quadras? I'll take a demo model.
