- I've used both AD 1.something and 2.0 under A/UX with no severe
- problems, but I agree that it's not fully functional. It is, of
- course, a _severely_ bad idea to turn AD loose on a Unix volume.
- However, MacOS volumes can be safely AD'd under A/UX. You don't get
- the little DD labels on compressed files, but that's livable. The
- watch-for-events code is broken (which is probably a 10 minute for
- Salient; would be nice if they put it in). DiskDoubler's finder menu
- is broken, too :-(.

-
- Everyone who can afford to (i.e.: is a high-profile software
- publisher, or wants to be) should really test under A/UX. It's very
- annoying to users when things don't run under A/UX, and being
- compatible is usually very simple. Apple maintains a very nice
- testing lab for doing A/UX testing as well (although you do have to
- get out to Cupertino to use it).
-
- In addition, as Jan-Erik points out, things that work with A/UX have
- a much better chance of not breaking under future Apple system
- software -- witness what happened to non-32-bit-clean applications
- when Sys7 came out. If people had tested under A/UX, those problems
- would have been found much earlier.
