- My Mac IIfx with System 7 is showing some strange problems.
-
- I noticed that when I did "Empty Trash" the hard disk whirred, the Finder
- menu greyed out but nothing happened - no "TRash contains x items taking
- up Y KB space" - warning - no emptying.
-
- Pressing Command-Period brings back to Finder but the trash remains.
-
- I thought the directory may be corrupted so first ran Apple's Disk Checking
- program that said no repairs were necessary, then I tried to rebuild
- desktop, then I backed up all 160MB onto other hard drioves. and FORMATTED
- this HD and then reinstalled System etc. But the problem remains.
-
- Booting up with a floppy system allows me to empty trash, and also if
- I use File Sharing I can drag the files from the "Trash Folder" to
- the logged in machines' trash and it empties. An interesting thing
- i saw with the floppy boot up was that when I double click the
- trash icon that was not emptying I found it displayed a "lock" in the
- window suggesting it was like a locked folder. This is despite the
- fact that there are no locked files in it.
-
- I wonder what is happening and what the solution is.
