- The RAM and drive I can't comment on, although I would think newer drives
- would have less current draw than these 20 meg beasts. As to the modems,
- I know the Global Village 2400 draws 1/4 watt when active, and the 9600
- and 14,400 both said 1 watt. They draw very little power idle, but if you
- modem a lot off battery expect to watch that meter drop pretty fast.
- The biggest vampire will by far be the modem, not the RAM.
-
- It still really seems strange to me that with all these PB100's, nobody's
- marketing a better battery! Lead-Acid is terrible! Surely a Nickel-Hydride
- this huge would give me 8 hours of time. Plus which it burns me to shell out
- $115 for a spare lead-acid that gives so little time. I'd fork out as much
- as $150-$200 for a GOOD battery that would obviate the need for carrying
- around spares.
-
- I think I'll wait through the current Duo line which don't seem much better.
- Maybe the next generation of them will have longer lives. 4 hours of REAL
- use (bright enough screen to read without headaches) seems a reasonable
- minimum requirement to me.
