- There are two ways that faxes can be recieved depending on the type of
- fax machine. On modem/faxes, there can be two methods of doing this.
- The reason comes from the method that the faxes are sent. On some fax
- machines, the faxes are just sent automatically, you do nothing. On
- others, you have to wait for the tone, and then press the start/stop
- button. On a fax modem with voce mail, the proplem is solved by its
- program. When an automatic fax calls in, the voice/fax automatically
- switches to fax. If it is one of those with a start/stop button, my
- voice message tells them to press the number one on their keypad, and
- then the fax tone is generated and the fax takes over.
- Before investing in one of these gizmos, it is best to try the
- features of the modem/fax/voice before you buy. I personally found
- that the $488 investment in the Promethus Ultima Home Office was well
- worth it. It is a 14.4 modem, 9600bps fax, and voice mail/answering
- machine with thousands of voice mailboxes. The software is excellent
- and easy to use. If you don't have a voice digitizer already, it makes
- any normal phone into one. It allows you to record sound for editing.
- The best part about it is that you don't need three different pieces
- of equipment and millions of cables. Everything is included.
-
- Hope this helps. The Ultima Home Office can be found in the Mac Zone
- in MacWorld.
