- You need special PAL 4MB SIMMs for a Mac II or IIx. These SIMMs have
- a special ninth chip that is necessary to compensate for the fact that
- the Mac II was designed before the 4MB SIMM design was settled upon.
- These SIMMs are not to be confused with 9-chip parity SIMMs, which are
- common in the PC world. Also, due to a limitation of the original Mac
- II ROMs, you must put the 4MB SIMMs in bank B, since bank A cannot
- handle SIMMs larger than 1MB. If you want to use virtual memory on a
- Mac II, you'll also need to get a 68851 PMMU chip, which plugs into
- the motherboard and provides the hardware necessary to do VM.
