- I have confirmed on the net and from Global Village that their TelePort
- external modem will not work with the PowerBook 160 and 180. The culprit is
- a change to the ADB port in these models.
-
- I have some questions, which I am sure are FAQs, about the new Apple
- PowerBook Express Modem for the 160 and 180.
-
- 1. Does anyone have any idea when it is set to ship? The local retailers
- in Ohio do not have it yet.
-
- 2. I know that the Duo version of this modem and the PB 160/180 version
- are different. According to MacWeek, at least the Duo version uses a
- Data pump technology and also offloads some of the modems tasks to the
- CPU. The long and the short of this implementation being that when the
- modem is used in the background, it slows down foreground tasks. My
- question is, is this offloading of tasks also the implementation on the
- 180 / 160 version. Obviously it is preferable from a performance stand-
- point for the modem not to do this.
-
- 3. Any other suggestions for internal modems for the PB 160? I'd like send
- and receive fax and speeds above 2400 for data would be nice.
-
- Thanks. Please respond by email or in this newsgroup. --JN.
