- I know I may not get much sympathy from the net, here. I'm one of the lucky
- early recepients of the DuoDock and I also have an NEC 5FG (17") monitor.
- Now, when I hook them together, I get a somewhat unimpressive, but crystal
- clear 832x624 8-bit color display. That's OK, but what I really want is
- more pixels. A 1/4" high "9-point" font is a bit of an overkill even for
- myopic me.
-
- Does anyone know how to hitch these two thoroughbreds up to give 640x870
- (Apple's Portrait Display, I think) or even the much sought after 1024x768?
- I know there's a clue in the "sense pins" on the cable, and I think I
- remember some posting talking about a miracle cable with switches to
- reconfigure same. My call to NEC ended with a polite, "hmm, we don't know
- much about the DuoDock. You really need to contact Apple about that, since
- it's their video driver." And 800-SOS-APPL replied with, "it'll support
- anything up to the Apple 16" monitor, and, yea, probably the Portriat, and
- VGA and SVGA, but we don't have anyway of knowing about the NEC 5FG." My
- question was misunderstood, and I attempted to re-query with, "if the DuoDock
- video will drive 640x870, and the NEC 5FG will MultiSync to just about anything
- how to I get the DuoDock to think the NEC is a 640x870 display?" The reply
- was, "well, we don't know. It's a new product, and the folks that know are in
- Cupertino. I'll let you know when I get an AppleLink response." I'm already
- expecting the answer to be, "you need a higher rez. NuBus video card," but
- I'm hoping there might be a comprimise solution.
- OK, well in the meantime, I thought I'd ask this benevolent network
- for answers. Replies directly to me will be appreciated, and if there's any
- new info, I'll post here as followup. --- Thanks, EP
