- Charlie isn't the only one who spoke with Insignia; I called them
- today myself to ask for the story behind the "demo". What I was
- told was that there *is* such a thing as a "demo copy" of SoftAT,
- but it's not a "demo" in the usual sense.
-
- A SoftAT "demo copy" is sold for $75 to consultants and dealers
- to allow them to convince potential customers to buy SoftAT. The
- "For Demonstration Only" message is meant as a reminder for dealers
- and consultants that the SoftAT "demo copy" is licensed only for
- the purpose of demonstrations, and not for doing any "real" work,
- despite the fact that the SoftAT "demo" is in fact fully functional.
-
- It appears, then, that someone got hold of one of these "demo copies"
- of SoftAT and uploaded it to the archives, either not realizing or
- not caring that the "demonstration" message relates to how the copy
- is *supposed* to be used, not how it *can* (or can't) be used.
