- I have a naive question that lots of laptop users must already know the
- answer to. My wife has a laptop with a built-in trackball that behaves like
- a Microsoft mouse on COM2. (It's a CompuAdd 325TX.) If I buy a serial mouse
- for it, is there an easy way to switch between using the mouse and using the
- trackball at startup time? The NVRAM setup allows me to swap the COM1/COM2
- ports, so presumably I could just buy a mouse that was Microsoft compatible
- and swap the ports, but that seems like a pain if I have to do it very often:
- I'd rather just type a command at startup, before entering Windows.
- Any advice? Neither CompuAdd's documentation nor salesdrones were very
- helpful.
-
- And while I'm on the subject of mice, can I just buy a generic mouse, like
- the one CompuAdd sells, or are the software interfaces different enough that
- I should buy a Microsoft mouse? This would be for fairly infrequent use:
- the only use that comes to mind is for use with Microsoft Paintbrush, which
- came bundled with Windows.
-
- Thanks.
