  4. Subject: Help!  My IBM 8512 VGA PS/2 monitor fried!!!

  13. Yesterday a friend of mine got home to find his 8512 monitor freaking out.
  14. The intensity level was oscillating in and out, accompanied by an intermintent
  15. hissing noise.  He has left the monitor on constantly for about 4 months (he
  16. bought it used.)  So he turned off the monitor.  Waited a few secs, then
  17. turned it back on.  Then no picture, but white/grey smoke started pouring
  18. out the top of the monitor.  He shut it off immediately.  So, can anyone
  19. diagnose the problem with this limited description?  Should he attempt to
  20. look at the internal wiring (possible wire burnout?)  Is there a IBM service
  21. number he could call?  He bought it used so doesn't have warranty information.
  22. Would it be worth taking to a computer store for repair?  Any advice
  23. would be greatly appreciated.  Thanx!
