- Yesterday a friend of mine got home to find his 8512 monitor freaking out.
- The intensity level was oscillating in and out, accompanied by an intermintent
- hissing noise. He has left the monitor on constantly for about 4 months (he
- bought it used.) So he turned off the monitor. Waited a few secs, then
- turned it back on. Then no picture, but white/grey smoke started pouring
- out the top of the monitor. He shut it off immediately. So, can anyone
- diagnose the problem with this limited description? Should he attempt to
- look at the internal wiring (possible wire burnout?) Is there a IBM service
- number he could call? He bought it used so doesn't have warranty information.
- Would it be worth taking to a computer store for repair? Any advice
- would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!
