- I have a 286 ps/2 that has 1 meg of ram and a 20M hard disk. I want
- to use turbo c++ (dos) so I need at least to upgrade the ram. 4M Ram + plus
- instalation is about $160.
- On the otherhand a 386sx/25, 2M ram, 40M hd, and monitor card is $699.
- It is available from a local dealer. I can use my old monitor.
- I *need* to use turbo c++ on my home machine *soon*.
-
- Should I:
- 1) Sink $160 into the old dinosaur.
- 2) Somehow come up with $699 for better cpu and more hard disk space.
- 3) Wait until I can buy a portable for about $1,000 that I can program
- using BC++. A toshiba T1800 *notebook* is $1399 at the same dealer.
- 386sx/20 2M ram, 60M hard disk... I might be able to have $1,000
- by february. BC++ on a portable is a tremenous motovator...
-
- I'm planning to do #1 _then_ buy a used hard disk at some point to
- get more storage. I'm posting here to see if
- the ram upgrade is enough. I'm going to write simple programs so I know
- space will be a pain, but not critical. However, I've never programmed
- on a pc. Is a 286 with 4M ram fast enough or am I giving a pig steriods?
