- Flopticals are not CD-ROMs. There are machines that can write to special
- CD's. (The gold type, like PhotoCDs.) I know people that have them. I
- think most people are confused about all the different types of
- magneto-optical drives on the market.
-
- - floptical- 20 meg floppy disks
- - CD-ROM drive- reads CD-ROM discs
- - CD-ROM writer- writes CD-ROM discs, requires special discs. Data can
- be written to the disc once.
- - WORM drive- write once, read many- requires special WORM discs. Data
- can be written on the disk and it's possible to append data onto the
- disk. Just like a hard drive without the ability to delete files.
- - Optical drives- uses magneto-optical disks. Ability to erase data
- that has been written to the disk. Comes in 3.5" 128 meg or 256 meg
- versions. Or 5.25" 600 meg or 1 gig versions.
