- Can anyone tell me if there are any ftp'able programs that will do
- diagnostics on a hard drive? We've got a 386 clone that can't find its
- IDE hard drive. We tried a new controller, but SETUP still didn't see the
- C: drive. I told SETUP to store the proper C: information anyway, but
- it still wouldn't boot from C:. Next I tried connecting the drive to a
- different socket on the ribbon cable. Now if I do a CHKDSK on it, it
- asks two questions: if it should fix the errors it finds, and if it
- should convert loose blocks or chains to files. I answered no for fear
- of screwing up the data that's on the disk, but it may be gone anyway.
- I'm hoping there's a PD program somewhere that will help me
- determine whether the drive is shot, and whether any of the data are
- recoverable.
