- The original poster was actually looking for Upper Memory Block (UMB) usage
- even though he asked about expanded memory (EMS). By far the vast majority of
- 286 systems in use are incapable of providing UMBs without some sort of hardware
- intervention such as a large-frame (e.g., AST Rampage) EMS card. Methods such
- as the above which put a 64K page frame into conventional memory (below 640K)
- are counter productive to the goal of increasing overall memory because driver
- and page frame will DECREASE available conventional memory by about 90K.
