  17. The original poster was actually looking for Upper Memory Block (UMB) usage 
  18. even though he asked about expanded memory (EMS).  By far the vast majority of
  19. 286 systems in use are incapable of providing UMBs without some sort of hardware
  20. intervention such as a large-frame (e.g., AST Rampage) EMS card.  Methods such
  21. as the above which put a 64K page frame into conventional memory (below 640K)
  22. are counter productive to the goal of increasing overall memory because driver
  23. and page frame will DECREASE available conventional memory by about 90K.
