  27. I think you answered your own question.  Comparing resale values a year
  28. after the purchace is irrelevant.  PC class systems are in a price free
  29. fall.  Mac prices are dropping as well, but not nearly at the pace of the
  30. Intel/AMD/Cyrix systems.  One of my friends bought a 486/33 in October 91
  31. for $2800.  An equivalent system sells for $2000 today.  If he were to sell
  32. his system with a "reasonable" 60% retention (based on today's "new" prices)
  33. he would get $1200 for it.  That's roughly 43% of the original purchase
  34. price.  I don't follow Mac prices, but I doubt if the high end systems
  35. have dropped 29% or more in price since last year.
