- I think you answered your own question. Comparing resale values a year
- after the purchace is irrelevant. PC class systems are in a price free
- fall. Mac prices are dropping as well, but not nearly at the pace of the
- Intel/AMD/Cyrix systems. One of my friends bought a 486/33 in October 91
- for $2800. An equivalent system sells for $2000 today. If he were to sell
- his system with a "reasonable" 60% retention (based on today's "new" prices)
- he would get $1200 for it. That's roughly 43% of the original purchase
- price. I don't follow Mac prices, but I doubt if the high end systems
- have dropped 29% or more in price since last year.
