  29. I'll get back to you folks with a follow up (and maybe two). I recently
  30. helped a friend purchase a PC from Fast Micro (which is hopefully in the
  31. mail). As he is uninterested in Windows or bundles and doesn't want to
  32. lay out the cash for a full-blown 486, here's the system he ordered:

  34. Value Line - 486SX @ 25MHz
  35.              4 MB Memory
  36.              170 MB Drive
  37.              .28 NI video with 1MB SVGA card
  38.              Mini-tower case

  40. Cost: $1229 + $50 shipping.

  42. (This is the system advertised at $999 with a larger HD and better video.
  43.  I pushed him really hard to get better video, for $130 extra it's worth it.)

  45. In any event, I'll get back with a followup once we see how it turns out.
  46. The sales people seems reasonable well informed, but there was a bit of
  47. confusion (mainly regarding expansion capabilities).

  49. If it goes well, my Mac SE might get a companion (in my case, the VESA).
