  12. I am preparing to buy a computer, specifically the following:
  13. 486DX50/256K cache/8mb memory/213mb IDE drive (WD Caviar)
  14. Paradise Accelerator Card and 14" PIONEX monitor.
  15. The companies are: Computer Sales Professional (New Jersey)
  16. and Quantex (New Jersey).
  17. My questions:
  18. 1. Does anyone have dealt with either companies? What is your opinion
  19.    on either one of them?
  20. 2. I do not know much about PIONEX monitor but I saw one at SAM'S
  21.    WHOLESALE CLUB and it seemed a bit blurry. What type of 14" monitor
  22.    do you think is a good one? I am particularly interested in Optiquest
  23.    1000D but I looked in several publications and nobody (except two,
  24.    which I called and said they no longer carry the monitor brand) had
  25.    it. I do not want to spend more than $400 (such as for Sony 1304S).
  26.    My primary choices:
  27.       Optiquest 1000D
  28.       Viewsonic 5E (barely more than $400)
  29.       Viewsonic 6E
  30.    What else is there and where to get it (also price range). Is Optiquest
  31.    still in business? Where to get their monitors? I am not planning to
  32.    use more than 800x600x256 colors consistently.
  33. 3. How good is the Paradise Accelerator (WD90C31)? The Computer Shopper
  34.    (12/92) has a report on it and 16 others and consider it less than the
  35.    Speedstar 24X. Should I get the 24X instead? I am a bit reluctant to
  36.    buy or recommend Diamond products given the complaints I read in this
  37.    newsgroup on Diamond company. The Paradise is made by Western Digital
  38.    which produces the 90C31 chip, so I am assuming it is a good one. How-
  39.    ever, the card only manage roughly 1/2 the Winmark of the 24X and I
  40.    do not understand this at all. Bad driver?

  42.    What graphics card should I buy if the Paradise is a nono (in your opi-
  43.    nion?) I am interested in running OS/2 sometime in the future, so I need
  44.    something that will allow me to run OS/2 (so: no ATI, I guess). ET4000
  45.    card seems to be too slow for it (just a feeling).
