  13. I have had plenty of problems with an inexpensive S3 graphics
  14. adapter (MVGA-S3C911). I was given the adapter on trial but I need
  15. to return it soon unless I buy it, so I could really use some quick
  16. solutions!

  18. The problem is that whichever high resolution video mode I use the
  19. screen behaves very oddly. The Windows logo is typically displayed
  20. OK, but when Windows starts showing it is badly scrambled:
  21. characters missing, extra characters, scrambled colors. In some
  22. modes the screen goes blank after the Windows logo and I have to
  23. reset my computer.

  25. I assume the culprit might be my monitor, a Nec Multisync II.
  26. However, I have set the DIPs on the S3 adapter for an interlaced
  27. mode and my Nec has no difficulty working properly when I use my
  28. Video 7 1024i in 1024x768, for instance. There should be nothing
  29. wrong with the adaptor itself, as it worked OK when I tried it in
  30. another computer today (a 16" Eizo 9070).

  32. So anyone who can confirm that a Multisync II is out of question
  33. for S3 operation or can suggest other solutions, please e-mail
  34. your replies to me urgently.
