-
- Actually UART isnt really part of the name of the device.. Its a description
- of the device (your usuage is sort of like saying you own an AUTOMOBILE FORD
- MUSTANG instead of just saying you have a Ford Mustang automobile).
-
- As for if you can replace it, this depends. ALMOST for sure you can do it,
- however some serial cards dont use a standard 40pin DIP package for their
- UART. Some of them put them in an ASIC with several other UARTs, and possibly
- even some other support hardware.
-
- You also may have to de-solder your old UART if it does happen to be a 40pin
- DIP, but non set into a socket.
-
- >If so, Does anybody know where to get it at pretty good price?
-
- Just try asking around town. I was going to buy mine (several years ago) mail
- order, and found it locally for only 1$ more (im sure that shipping/handling
- on the mail order IC would have been much more than 1$ anyway, plus I didnt
- have to wait to get it).
-
- >I knew it was something like $49/ chip.
-
- This CANT be true. Ive had an NS1650AFN in my serial card for just under 2
- years, and at the time I bought it for about 15$. Id say that current prices
- are under 10$..

- Your welcome, in retrospect :)
