- About 2 weeks ago I asked about these companies, and promised to "summarize
- responses". Well, here they are.
-
- I'm still in the market for a PC, so anyone who wants to laud or bitch and
- moan about their PC vendor can mail me, I'll summarize the responses and post
- them periodically...

- A friend of mine specifically warned me about FastMicro. He said that they
- periodically change their name, address and phone number to avoid all the
- people who paid them money and got nothing shipped to them.
- For decent prices and a better reputation, try Insight as well as
- some of the others you mentioned.

- just a quick comment on FASTmicro... I ordered a video card from them
- over the phone w/ credit card. It took a week from the order date before
- the card was shipped. The operator that took the order said the card was
- in stock. When I called and asked the status of my order, I asked if a
- weeks time to ship was the routine, and he said yes... So much for FAST!

- If you are shopping for 486, I think FastMicro is the cheapest since they have
- Video Card on Local Bus slot, and 8MB. You should also consider what type
- of Motherboard each company uses, Hard disk brand, etc.

- I purchased a FastMicro system about 2 years ago and have had no problems
- with it at all. It has served me very well. However, a recent survey showed
- that FastMicro rated at the bottom when it came to overall performance of
- a mail order company. I guess their repair time was poor, tech support
- was not all that great. But as for prices, they definitely have the best
- in my book. I'm considering getting my next system from them as well.
