- Well, after writing a 46 page report containing some vector graphics
- (about 20 figs.) and finding that it took Winword 2.0 3.6 MB to store
- it, I decided that it would be the last report to be written with that
- crummy app.
- We're a university here, so the thing didn't cost us so much.
- Furthermore, there are others here at my institute happy to use W4W so I
- just passed it on to them. But purchased at the full price W4W is a
- disgrace to MS-programmers.
- Want more?
- Well, the equation editor is bought from another company and doesn't
- conform to standard interface guidelines (if there are any under
- Windows). Gripe: Trying to turn something written in full size into an
- index by first selecting it and then choosing the index function in the
- menu results in an empty index box. The selected text is gone
- completely, not even to be found in the clipboard.
- Gripe: Importing graphics files into W4W MUST be done by copying the
- contents of the graphics file into the W4W doc resulting in TWO copies
- of the graphics data on the disc. Same holds for W4W docs !
- Gripe: Double clicking on an imported Lotus *.pic graphics in W4W
- deletes the graphic since MSDraw does not include an import filter for
- the PIC format. No warning, no chance to stop the process. Have to go
- back and import the graphics over again.
- Gripe: updating fields (variables for automatic numbering and such)
- takes LOOONG (on a 368 33MHz, 8MB RAM and fast disk).
-
- Conclusion: have now deleted W4W from my disk (and rinsed with ozone
- friendly solvent, just to make sure, called in an exorcist and a voodoo
- doctor to take care of Bill Gates) and swear solemnly to henceforth use
- only LaTeX for document preperation purposes. Seriously, the output
- looks better, the compilation is faster than the updating mentioned
- above and I feel more like a real, knowledgeable computer buff now.

- Sie singen das alte Entsagungslied, das Eiapopeia vom Himmel,
