  17. Most existing 386SX motherboards use surface mounted type CPUs
  18. called PQFP (Plastic Quick Flat Packaging). And those 386SX CPUs
  19. are not easily removed without some special soldering tools.
  20. So, most of the 386SX motherboard are not upgradeable to 486SLC

  26. The 486SLC Cyrix CPU is for existing 386SX motherboard. (486DLC CPU
  27. is for 386DX motherboard) which is internal 32-bit, and external 
  28. 16-bit with 1k internal CPU cache. A SLC motherboard is normally
  29. 2.5 times faster than a SX motherboard (for the same clock speed).
  30. For example a 386SX-33MHz motherboard gives you 37MHz on Landmark
  31. speed test version 2.0, while a 386SLC-33 motherboard outputs
  32. 106MHz, (386SX-25: 28MHz vs 486SLC-25: 86MHz on Landmark v2.0).

  37. You can get a whole motherboard with user manual for about $170-250,
  38. on 486SLC-25MHz, or around $190 or up, you can get a 486DLC-33MHz3
  39. motherboard. 
  40. If you not able to locate a good priced supplier, here is my 
  41. recommendation:

  43. I found so far: $170.00 for 486SLC-25Mhz motherboard, and $199.00
  44. for 486SLC-33Mhz motherborad (comes with AMI BOIS).
