- Hello folks,
-
- I got a question from a friend, if you can answer it please email me at the
- address mentioned below.
-
-
- I recently bought a Speedstar 24X SVGA card, mainly because of my
- interest in raytracing and viewing the resulting 24-bit pictures in all
- those splendid colors. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the card to behave
- properly under Windows 3.1. Every time I swiched from a DOS application to
- the Windows desktop my system crashed (Memory parity errors). This only
- happened using the Speedstar video drivers, not with the standard VGA
- drivers. Another problem was that the number of system crashes had also
- seemed to go up.
- When I went back to the computer store they told me that the Speedstar
- 24X had problems on 486 machines. Since they didn't have any other 24-bit
- SVGA cards, I got my money back and have gone back to using my old Trident
- card.
- Question: Does anyone know about this Speedstar 24X problem on (a
- number of) 486 machines. If so, what causes these problems and are there
-
-
- any solutions found. If not, what is another good choice for 24-bit
- displays and Windows 3.1 acceleration.
-
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Richard Vermaas
