- Hi!
-
- My cousin is shopping around for a CD-ROM drive. The one he's
- currently targetted is the Smart & Friendly HS1200 for $660, including
- an interface card and software bundle. Not knowing anything about
- this drive or its manufacturer, I thought I would poll net.opinion on
- both to find out if it's worth getting.
-
- First off, what are the specs on the HS1200? The ad claims 280ms access time
- and sustained transfer rates of 300 Kb/sec - is this accurate? Also, does
- it have a built-in cache; if so, how big is it? SCSI interface?
-
- Second, is it any good in terms of more intangible features, like
- documentation, warranty, ease of use, longevity, tech/customer
- support, etc.? How does it compare to other drives in its class? Are
- there any drives in its price range you would recommend over it?
-
- While I'm at it, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Better
- Business Systems? It's the mail order house my cousin wants to buy the
- drive from, so I'd like to know a little something about them too.
-
- I'd appreciate E-mail, and soon - he wants to order the drive so it'll
- arrive in time for Christmas. Many thanks in advance.
