- Well, I've now got the data sheets from Diamond right in front of me:
-
- Diamond Viper VLB - Weitek P9000 accelerator, VESA Local Bus, 1 or 2 MB VRAM,
- 50 Winmarks (v2.5) @ DX2/66 - Price $449 @ 1MB, $549 @ 2MB
-
- Diamond Stealth Pro - S3 928 accelerator, VESA LB or ISA, 1 or 2 MB VRAM,
- 35 Winmarks (v2.5) @ DX2/66 - Price $349 @ 1MB, $499 @ 2MB
-
- Diamond Stealth 24 - S3 805 (VESA LB) or 801 (ISA), 1 MB VRAM,
- No Winmarks stated - Price $249

- Diamond says that the benchmarks were run on a DX2/66 (no elaboration).
- They show a bar chart comparing the Viper VLB to the ATI Ultra Pro VLB
- (50 vs. 29 Winmarks). I did some testing on an ATI Ultra Pro VLB myself,
- using a 486DX2/66 (w/256K cache and 8MB RAM). The ATI UP I tested had
- 2MB VRAM and was running in the 1024x768x256 color mode. I got 30+
- Winmarks consistenly w/ Winbench 2.5, using the 1.1 release drivers,
- but only got 28 w/ the original ATI drivers. So I think the board
- drivers have a lot to do with Winmark performance.

- I suppose it's possible, but that's better than what Diamond is
- claiming for their Stealth Pro and Viper VLB boards, both of which are
- both supposed to have faster accelerator chips than the 805. Maybe
- Comtrade is mixing up Orchid's W9000 board with their 805 board. It will be
- interesting when some real world benchmarks start appearing that test
- the VLB versions of these boards against each other.
