- There have been a few questions asking about Battles of Destiny. I've played
- the game for about 15 hours, here are my first impressions.
-
- As has been mentioned before this is basically Empire++. The major change
- from Empire is a much greater variety of units, approximately 20 types.
- Most types do have a use from my experience. Another nice addition is
- variable map size. Some maps are only about one screen in size, others are
- up to about 5 by 5 screens (I think).
-
- Graphics are very subpar, so is sound. If you've played Lost Admiral, by the
- same company (QQP) you know how bad the graphics look. In fact the graphics
- are even worse than Lost Admiral because everything is much smaller. Ships
- in particular are so small that they often look alike.
-
- The computer opponent is of moderate ability. Certainly not as good as Lost
- Admiral but way better than Perfect General. Combat results have a fairly
- large random factor so this might be one reason the A.I. isn't as good as
- in Lost Admiral. There are 9 levels of A.I., I have played up to level 7.
- There is certainly a noticable difference in levels (unlike Perfect
- General). The computer opponents (there can be up to 4 players) also seem
- to attack human players in preference to other computers (or maybe it
- just seems that way). With 2 or 3 high level computer players I'm sure the
- challenge will be sufficient.
-
- My biggest disappointment with this game is the scoring history. Not anywhere
- near as good as Lost Admiral (and Conquered Kingdoms looks even better).
- There is only one chart, not scoring for each senario. Also although
- there are two campaigns (easy and hard) they are simply a number of games
- strung together with no connection between the games. I have won the easy
- campaign and all I got was a text message telling me to go on to the hard
- campaign.
-
- Overall I am not sorry I bought this game, but I wouldn't necessary
- recommend it to others until Empire Deluxe comes out. Battles has a very
- rough feel to it and for me there is not enough incentive to play, with the
- poor scoring history and campaigns.
