- Okay..."in 9.0 ..."
-
- From the 9.0 Release Notes:
- --------------------------------------------
- The Virtual Memory X Driver - HP VMX
- --------------------------------------------
-
- The 9.0 release of HP-UX graphics includes a new device driver: the
- Virtual Memory X (HP VMX) driver. This allows an application to use HP
- high performance graphics libraries in a client/server fashion to any
- 8-bit X11 window, even those on X11 servers which are remote.
-
- HP VMX renders to a private virtual memory buffer, and then transfers the
- results to an 8-bit X11 window using standard X11 protocol. This device
- driver is supported with all HP-UX graphics APIs on the Series 700 only.
- While HP VMX must run on a 9.0 HP-UX Series 700 SPU, its output may be
- directed to an 8-bit X11 window anywhere on your network:
-
- * Local or remote
-
- * Workstations from HP or others, such as the HP 9000 Series 700 family
-
- * X terminals from HP or others, such as the HP 700/RX X Station family
-
- * PCs running X11
-
- HP VMX fully supports PowerShade 2.0 high performance 3D rendering,
- including the following capabilities:
-
- * Lighting and shading
-
- * Hidden surface removal via 16-bit SW zbuffering.
-
- * Double buffering (8 planes per buffer)
-
- * All Starbase/PHIGS display modes including color map sharing with X11
-
- To use HP VMX from Starbase simply use the driver name "hpvmx" in your
- call to "gopen()". To use VMX with HP-PHIGS see HP-PHIGS 2.3
- documentation. The "/usr/lib" directory contains the shared library
- version of the HP VMX driver, "libddvmx.sl". The device driver is
- automatically loaded at run time when requested from a Starbase or
- HP-PHIGS program. The archive version of HP VMX is already included in
- "libsb1.a", so no change is needed in your linking for shared or archive
- libraries in order to use it.
