- Some time back I posted the question
-
- "What are the best parameters to use when making a
- backup to a 4mm DAT using dump on an HP720?"
-
- We had been using the following parameters
-
- blocking factor 112
- size 6000
- density 54000
-
- I finally got a response from HP. They say that the formula
- to use to calculate the size of a tape in feet is
-
- capacity(in bytes)
- size = --------------------
- density x 12
-
- Thus for a 1.3 gigabyte DAT tape we have
-
- 1.3 x 1024 x 1024 x 1024
- size = -------------------------- = 72700
- 1600 x 12
-
- Therefore one set of dump parameters for 1.3GByte DAT that
- takes advantage of the default density and blocking values are
-
- length = 72700
- density = 1600 (default)
- block size = 32 (default)
-
- We haven't switched our backup method yet, but plan to in the
- near future.
-
- Hope this information is of use.
