- My thanks to every one that responeded.
-
- We've decided to go with the recommendation from Allyn Fratkin that
- was posted by him.
-
- This involved taking advantage of the fact that an anonymous ftp has
- its own /etc/passwd file within the ~ftp directory.
-
- We've been able to set things up so that a user first logs in anonymously
- and then must use the "USER" command to change to their assigned ftp id.
-
- While accessing as anonymous, they are allowed no access to files.
-
- After switching to their assigned user-id, they are in the home
- directory setup in ~ftp/etc/passwd. The permissions for the directory
- allow access only to there user-id, and they have no access to any other
- directory setup for a user.
-
- Because they initially logged in anonymously, they have been chrooted to
- the ~ftp directory and can not access other directories above the
- ~ftp directory.
-
- Several other people suggested downloading FTPD source code from
- wuarchive, which allows settting up classes of ftp access.
-
- And Don Huan-Miguel responded saying that there is a restrictable version
- of ftp at ftp.csc.liv.ac.uk
-
- Once again thanks,
-
