  13.     I've added an external drive to my HP 9000/433s and it seems to
  14. be extremely slow.  It may be that the drive is really slow, but I wanted
  15. to check if I've misconfigured something first.  The internal drive is
  16. running about 2 to 3 times the speed of the external drive in tests I've
  17. run using Bonnie and iotest and it just feels slower when moving files
  18. around.  The internal drive is an HP2213A (SCSI Coyote II) and the
  19. external drive is a Fujitsu M2263SA.  I've got the Fujitsu configured
  20. with read-ahead caching enabled, as a SCSI-2 drive, parity is enabled
  21. and synchronous transfers are enabled by the host.

  39. I've tried running tests when I've had the system entirely to myself
  40. and gotten the same results as when there is a load on the system.  I've
  41. also run tests when the Fujitsu drive had no files on it (it acts as the
  42. news spool normally) and gotten similar results.

  45. So, please tell me have I'd made some fundamental mistake in my setup
  46. that would explain a 2-3 times difference in performance between the
  47. two drives or is the Fujitsu m2263SA a "slow" drive when compared to the
  48. HP2213A?
