- You can use /usr/lib/acct/fwtmp (read the manual entry) to convert the
- files into ASCII, then edit them normally, and restore them back using
- fwtmp again. If you don't wish to preserve any of the data in them,
- then they can be safely truncated (i.e. '> /etc/btmp' for example). Of
- course I might want to check out why /etc/btmp is getting large. It
- contains records of failed login attempts.
