- X (used by Vue) relies heavily on hostname resolution. If the
- hostname isn't resolved properly to an IP address and vice versa,
- your machine will give you no end of trouble.
-
- To set up the resolution properly, set up a file named "/etc/resolv.conf":
- #
- # resolv.conf fuer HP-UX Workstations
- # Institut fuer Elektrische Maschinen
- #
- domain ee.tu-berlin.de
- nameserver 130.149.50.135 # emserver.ee.tu-berlin.de (secondary, local subnet)
- nameserver 130.149.4.10 # mailgzrz.tu-berlin.de (univ's primary)
- nameserver 130.149.2.12 # wncs.zrz.tu-berlin.de
-
- Since the information isn't secret, make it world readable (don't know
- if it works when restricted, who cares). Set your hostname without
- domain (for my local desktop "emws1"). The machine should start working
- without problems immediatly, supposed it is listed in the official nameservers
- databases (if not, have your net admin perform thist task IMMEDIATLY).
-
- I hope I haven't forgotten anything, feel free to contact me with personal
- mail.

-
- PS. Since this question arises once per month, I decided to post rather
- than mail.
