- Just thought folks would like to know: I've got one, and it's a bit
- disappointing. The card actually has 4 different functions: a
- modest scientific calculator, a BASIC editor/interpreter, some
- statistical calculation functions, and an equation storage thing
- that lets you store and evaluate (but not solve) equations. The
- scientific calculator function is quite modest, and is easily beat
- out by any $15 scientific calculator you would buy at Radio Shack.
- The stats are ok, 1 and 2 variable stats, but only linear regression, and
- you can't save or edit the argument lists; you can only delete
- entries. The equation editor is almost useless; you enter an equation,
- and it then prompts you for variable values, and evaluates the
- expression.
-
- The BASIC itself is a pretty nice basic, giving you access to the com
- port, the touch screen on the card face, graphics on the entire
- screen, and some other goodies. The bad news is that the editor
- function provides only a 16 column window for entering basic
- statements and displaying output; this is not a typo -- sixteen
- columns! Ack! It's the next best thing to useless. There is a way
- to write the code in the memo function and then import it into
- the basic card, but it's pretty awkward. I was very disappointed
- when I saw this, and mystified as to why they've done it this way.
- The graphics functions within their BASIC let you write to the
- entire screen, and other cards (e.g., the spreadsheet) use the
- entire screen... why not the editor??? The card does have some
- RAM that you can configure as a ramdisk and store your programs,
- but with that tiny input/output window, what's the point. I was
- real disappointed. Just thought you'd like to know.
