- Give up trying to use the VR295. Instead, go buy a NEC 5FG (17", $1400 street
- price) or 6FG (20", $2300 street price). Several of my clients have purchased
- these on my recommendation and all are very impressed. They're cheaper than
- DEC's monitors, color and resolution are spectacular, and they're much more
- versatile: they'll work with ALL of DEC's workstation video standards as well
- as anything a PC or Mac is likely to throw at them; I'll bet they'll work on
- Suns, too.
-
- There is even a front- panel switch for selecting between the two sets of video
- inputs (one BNC connectors, the other a pair of D-sub connectors for PC and
- Mac)! So you can put one of these on your DEC workstation and not need a
- second monitor for the PC or Mac that you probably still need to have around.
-
- DEC really ought to consider dropping the VRT19 (Sony Trinitron) and supplying
- the 6FG instead. The image is better (sharper, crisper, etc.) and the customer
- would be getting a much more generally-useful tube. (This would not be
- inconsistent with DEC's commitment to open systems.)
