- The short answer is YES. >2400 is not even supported by the 64's hardware, but
- a SwiftLink cartridge will remedy that. It will also clean up 2400.
-
- <2400 is completely do-able with a C64.
-
- 2400 is where the CPU (being only 1 MHz) starts having trouble keeping up.
- Fortunately, this probably can be cured with software, ie. flow control and
- buffering. The program NovaTerm does this, and there is a patch for the Kermit
- program to do this also. I don't know of any others but I'm sure they exist.
- Worse case you can always drop your modem to 1200... this should be possible
- with most modems that support 2400... for specifics, RTM. Hayes' compatibles
- (or at least mine ;-) ) automatically adjust baud rate if you send an AT string
- at 1200 (ie. set up the term program for 1200 and send an AT string).
-
- Finally, you CANNOT use your Amiga modem on the C64 without an adapter. The
- amiga uses a different port (RS232) than the C64 (DB125 I think, but don't
- quote me on that, not an RS232 in any case, as about half of the Commodore docs
- claim!). Try it, you'll find that it's not physically possible.
-
- Good luck!
